Hear from our previous visitors

It’s the kind of place people stop for five minutes and end up staying much longer. Muddy boots by the door, dogs stretched out under tables, and plenty of chatter over mugs of tea and slices of cake.

Some call in after a long walk, others make it their regular stopping point, but it’s always about the same things: a warm welcome, good food and time to sit back and enjoy where you are.

Nidderdale’s Most Reliable Cafe

We live locally and use How Stean a lot for drinks/snacks after a dog walk or cycle ride. Food is good, staff are friendly, views of the gorge are great and the place is consistently open – whatever day of the week. Dog friendly too. Highly recommended!

Afternoon Tea

We enjoyed tea and scones with jam and clotted cream after walking around Scar House Reservoir in glorious sunshine. It’s a great café with home-cooked food (see the specials board) and stunning views both through the windows and the glass floor sections overhanging the gorge.

Fabulous Day

We had a fabulous day at How Stean Gorge entertaining clients. Everyone was very excited to join us on the day and they certainly weren’t disappointed. Stan and his team put everyone at ease and ensured they enjoyed the activities. It was a great event for a mixed group and everyone interacted really well. We have received excellent feedback and will certainly look to take another group.
