What’s the itinerary?
Day 1
Your instructor will meet you and your group in Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire. They will have all the equipment you’ll need for The Great Yorkshire Canoe Expedition.
Once all of our personal and group equipment is packed into the canoes, we will embark on our adventure leaving the vehicles behind.
Along the way your instructors will teach you all the required canoeing techniques you’ll need during your Great Yorkshire Canoe Expedition. This will include navigating your craft along the river easily, efficiently and safely making the journey as smooth and relaxing as possible. There will be plenty of breaks and a stop for lunch along the way.
The first day’s canoeing will finish at Linton Locks Marina. Here we will need to erect our tents, then off to the onsite pub for our evening meal which is included in the package.
Day 2
After breakfast (also included in the package) at Linton Locks Marina, we continue to paddle into York with a lunch break along the way. The river traffic will steadily increase as we get closer to York, passing numerous canal boats, barges, rowing boats and full river cruisers taking tourists along the banks of the River Ouse.
We will arrive at our destination at Mary Gate in York mid afternoon. After a leg stretch, we will hop into the How Stean bus which will be waiting to transport us back to the starting point.
Meals
All you will need to bring along is lunch and drinks to keep you going for the first day. Our evening meal and breakfast will be catered for by Linton Locks onsite pub where we will be able to pre-order our choices and meal times. How Stean will provide a packed lunch for day 2.
If you or any member of your group has any specific dietary requirements please inform us before the Expedition so we can make sure anyone who has allergies has suitable refreshments available.
Transport and Accommodation
We will meet at Boroughbridge and pack everything that you don’t need for the day into the How Stean minibus. e.g sleeping bags, clothing, personal possessions. This will then be transported to the campsite ready for your arrival.
Tents and sleeping mats will be provided by How Stean Gorge unless you would like to bring your own. At the end of the Expedition we will transport you back to your vehicles.
