To visit the gorge, adults are £8 and children are £6. Our activities start from £35 per person. 

The gorge is open from 9am till 5pm. Our half day activity sessions start at 09.30am and 1.30pm daily. For those guests attending the Big 5, you will meet your instructor at 10am. For all activities, we request that you arrive approximately 30 minutes before your start time and wear appropriate clothing.

Pop through to the reception where you will receive a warm welcome!

Our amazing self-guided walk around our Gorge includes:

• Beautiful trail along the waters edge
• Explore the How Stean Tunnel (cave)
• Explore Tom Taylors Cave
• We will provide a hard hat for your adventure
• We will of course, include a map, complete with orienteering course for those looking for a little more challenge

And loads of fun!

For visiting the gorge attraction you will need a basic fitness level to walk along the uneven pathways, steep steps and caves.

How Stean Gorge is a spectacular limestone ravine carved out over thousands of years by waterflow and is the perfect location for a family day out as well as outdoor activities like via ferrata, gorge walking, caving, rock climbing, canyoning and abseiling. It is geographically unique, as it’s one of the only places in the UK where you can comfortably enjoy both rocksports and canoeing – in a single day. It is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest in Nidderdale, An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – why choose anywhere else?

Of course! The paths are ideal for children to explore as there’s no straight lines and it’s bumpy in places. It is a superb natural feature but we would recommend small children are well supervised as there are sheer drops and ledges in places. 

Those who do not wish to go down into the gorge can watch some of the activity from the bridge or while away the rest of the time enjoying refreshments in our licensed café.

There is no minimum group size for the gorge attraction. 

The outdoor activities require a minimum of two people, however, if you are an individual wanting to join in the fun, we are more than happy to add you onto an existing session. Please give us a call. 

Gorge tickets are available online or you can get your ticket from reception on arrival where you will be greeted by a member of our lovely team. Our postcode is HG3 5SF. 

For outdoor activities, please head straight to reception where you will be introduced to your instructor. 

For the gorge, you will just need comfortable clothing and good footwear as it can get pretty wet in the caves. Hard hats are provided. You can bring your own torch or purchase one from the shop. We recommend you bring clothing suitable for the days prevailing weather.

The outdoor activities start at age 7.  The oldest person we have had take part is 82 years old!

Dogs are most welcome on-site and in the cafe. 

If you are planning to stay in one of our lodges, we are pet-friendly, however, this needs to be pre-booked. 

Unfortunately, dogs cannot take part in the activities, as much as they might love to!
