Abseil into a Gorge, down a waterfall or a sheer rock face

Put yourself into our very safe hands. Take part in our abseiling experiences in some of the UK’s most amazing locations. We will secure you into a harness and held safely on a rope as you descend.

How Stean offers four types of abseiling:

  1. During a rock climbing session. After experiencing the thrill of getting to the top see how quick and easy it is to abseil back down the rock face. Our 3 hour rock climbing sessions take place at How Stean Gorge or at Brimham Rocks.
  2. During a caving expedition. You may – depending on your ability – do a free abseil or rock face abseil within the cave. There are several locations in Nidderdale, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that can be used. Each session is tailored to your ability and the weather.
  3. At the start of the gorge walking / ghyll scrambling session, we do a wet abseil. Experience the rush as you lower yourself off the bridge and descend 45 feet into the gorge below.
  4. Tackle multiple abseils down waterfalls when canyoning This will get your adrenaline pumping as you descend one of these extremely steep watercourses.

Wherever you abseil you’ll get a great view

No matter whether you have been abseiling before you will love any of the activities above, most of our activities involve an abseil at some point. Sessions are tailored to suit your requirements and abilities under the guidance of our fully qualified instructors. So whether you’ve never put on a harness or you want to challenge yourself on new sites, we know locations suitable for you. Once you’ve tried it we are sure you will want to do it again … and again!
