Welcome

How Stean Gorge is leading visitor attraction offering access to a natural wonder, a unique, glass-floored café, a campsite and wide range of adventurous activities at the site of a spectacular limestone ravine in the Yorkshire Dales.

Improvements in accessibility to the gorge began in Victorian times, when exploring caves, grottos and caverns became very fashionable, and reached new levels in 2017 with the opening of glass-floored café and viewing area extending out across the ravine.

The attraction now maintains a network of narrow paths and bridges to a high standard, giving access to small tunnels and caves for anyone comfortable moving on uneven terrain with steps, overhanging rock and slippery rocks.

Our trained staff offer more adventurous experiences such as abseiling, canoeing, climbing, caving and gorge walking in ways which ensure they are genuinely accessible.

Please get in touch if you require any further information about specific access or need advice on planning your visit.
