Put yourself into our very safe hands. You will be secured into a harness and held safely on a rope as you take part in this abseiling experience in some of the UK's most amazing locations.
How Stean offers three types of abseiling:
During a rock climbing session. After experiencing the thrill of getting to the top see how quick and easy it is to abseil back down the rock face. Our 3 hour rock climbing sessions take place at How Stean Gorge or at Brimham Rocks.
During a caving expedition. You may – depending on your ability – do a free abseil or rock face abseil within the cave. There are several locations in Nidderdale, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that can be used. Each session is tailored to your ability and the weather.
At the start of the gorge scrambling session, we do a wet abseil. Experience the rush as you lower yourself off the bridge and descend 40 feet into the gorge below.
Abseiling on Film – Share your Adventure
If you take part in the gorge walking experience, then you'll have your adventure filmed on headcams. A free dvd of your adventure is available – subject to successful recording.
The Big 5 Multi Outdoor Activity Day - Let's make it a full day of adventure
Hot family sized showers, toilets, changing facilities and a licensed cafe are all onsite. You can return to base after your adventures and freshen up using our free facilities.
What do I need to bring?
When you do the wet abseil you will be wearing a wetsuit and you will need swimwear to wear underneath and an old pair of shorts to wear over the top to protect the wetsuit bottom and yours! We recommend you wear old trainers or wellies but don’t forget to bring dry footwear for when you have finished. For a dry abseil just wear comfortable clothing. We supply all safety equipment.
Can I take the whole family?
Of course! Anybody aged 7 or over can take part. Those who do not take part can while away the time exploring the gorge and caves or enjoying refreshments in our onsite café. Children will be well occupied in our play area right next to the café (children must be accompanied by an adult).
Is it safe?
Yes. All our activities are supervised by our highly trained and experienced instructors.
