ABOUT US
Open All Year
The spectacular limestone gorge can be followed
via narrow paths and footbridges along a ravine 20m deep in places,
a raging torrent in winter and a gentle stream in summer. The beck is
home to fish, lazing in the river under the dense wild garlic in spring and in summer
a canopy of ash,
oak and hazel interspersed with ferns and lichens.
If you are feeling more adventurous, Tom Taylor's Cave is open for all to explore - a "real cave" with dripping
stalactites. Bring your wellies if you want to explore How Stean Tunnel, if
you are careful the water should not go over the top. Be careful as any thing
wet and green is slippery.
Torches can be hired when purchasing your ticket for the Gorge £2.
Tours, parties, evening functions and potholing excursions are all welcome by
arrangement with the proprietors. Floodlighting of the upper gorge will soon be
completed.
Dogs under control are welcome.
Due to the uneven and difficult terrain wheelchair users and prams cannot
access the Gorge. |
