Our history
How Stean Gorge contains a maze of footpaths, caves and potholes which have been hollowed out of the limestone rock by the constant water flow over thousand’s of years. There are many tales and legends about the Gorge. Highway men reputedly used it as a hideout. Tom Taylor’s Cave is named after such a bandit. A hoard of silver and bronze coins was discovered in 1868 by a local boy, later verified as Roman coins. What will you find?
